Contents • • • • • • History [ ] MYOB was founded in the early 1980s a team of developers at Teleware, Inc., who developed accounting software. Teleware was purchased by Best Software, Inc. (now part of Sage) in 1993. Data-Tech Software was the Australia republisher of the MYOB products and, in 1997 entered into an agreement with Best Software to buy the company (renamed MYOB, Inc.) and bought the intellectual property rights to the software. In 1999, Data-Tech changed its name to MYOB Limited and listed on the (ASX) on 9 July 1999. In subsequent corporate development, MYOB Limited merged with Solution 6 Holdings in 2004.
Under the hood As with the last two versions of AccountEdge, MYOB has put a lot of work into features and functionality that you may not initially notice, especially if you don’t use AccountEdge in a networked, multiuser environment, don’t import data from other sources, don’t use AppleScript, or only use AccountEdge’s most basic security features. While we weren’t able to test these claims, the company says these enhancements should be obvious to anyone using the program in a networked, multiuser environment.
AccountEdge only syncs one way, from contacts you’ve created in AccountEdge to Address Book. Furthermore, after you’ve accomplished syncing your initial contacts, when you create new contacts in Address Book, AccountEdge creates four different Address Book groups, depending on whether your AccountEdge contact is a Vendor, Employee, Customer, or Personal contact.
While these features still aren’t perfect, the form tools are significantly improved in AccountEdge 2009. You’ll now be able to personalize invoices, estimates, statements, and checks in a more sophisticated way. The forms customization tool’s two greatest enhancements are its new Format and Fields palettes, which you use to quickly and easily add fields to your form and then change the way they look. AccountEdge’s new Business Insights feature helps you get a quick grasp of the overall financial status of your business. On the Fields palette, every field is organized into a logical grouping: one group for data that you want appear on every page, one for data that should appear only on the last page, and one for data that should appear only in the columns containing individual line items.
However, as a point of reference for now, it still refers to the program's developer as MYOB. It plans to transition away from that name over time.
